The bone boiler
02:24
|
|||
Bring me your horses
with their crippled feet
- with their bow-backs
with their wall-eyes
and their twisted teeth
You and me
do a little chop chop!
(that's all you need to do)
I stir the vat, I boil off the fat
and - voila! - here's your glue!
(now go wallpaper your house)
You and me
do a little CHOP CHOP!
Give me some monkeys that can no longer climb
- tails have lost their prehensility,
gone limp as an old vine;
thumbs not so opposable
and fur moulting off;
sit right down in my waiting room
and do some chop chop!
Stir a vat, a vat or two
finish watching _...Raymond_ and here's your glue!
Now go sniff yourself to death

I got an aesthetic system
and gave it to you
I gave you a whole way of feeling
and what did you do?
You said "no more"
I gave you an alphabet - I gave it to you
I gave you a whole way of signifying
and what did you do?
You said "no more"
I gave you an ontology - I gave it to you
I let you in on my epistemology
and what did you do?
You said "no more"

Get over cute
02:13
|
|||
Your hair doesn't work, and nor do your teeth
you're making it worse by trying to be sweet
it's supposed to be pert, instead it's stupidly neat
you're an idiot painted like doll
Here you go again pushing your hair around
here you go again trying to be sweet
here you go again, with your spatula
you're an idiot painted like a doll
Hit it
Your hair doesn't work
and nor do your teeth
you're making it worse by trying to be sweet
it's supposed to be pert - instead it's obscenely neat
you're an idiot painted like a doll
Hit it hit it
Get up off the floor - get over cute!

The sheaf tosser
04:20
|
|||
One raven sits in the tall ghost gum
staring down as the sun comes up
over me still sleeping at the back of the shed
mud in my teeth and my nails stained with red
and I scrub it off, I scrub it off
I scrub away the red
I scrub it off, I scrub it off
like Lady MacBeth
Two ravens sit at the top of the tree
turning four blue eyes - following me
watching where I went last night and who I was with
telling me again, just what I did
and I scrub it off, I scrub it off
I scrub away the red
I scrub it off, I scrub it off
like Lady MacBeth
I scrub it off, I scrub it off
but not enough to forget
I scrub it off, I scrub it off
like Lady MacBeth
So I cut some wood
and stop my ears
to forget what was said;
and I carve away at my hands remains
Like Lady MacBeth
Three ravens sit in the branches of the gallows
dismembering the mice and eating all the sparrows
Four ravens caw and cack and scream at me like babies
as I whittle away at my hands remains like MacBeth's Lady
So I cut some wood to stop my ears
to forget what was said
and I carve away at my hands remains
like Lady MacBeth.

Don't make that mistake
04:26
|
|||
You're coming for me with your silver spoon
with your figures and your charts that forecast doom
but you don't make that mistake...
you stood there silent as a Carmelite
calmly gesturing with your Armalite
slyly suggesting that I step inside
but you don't make that mistake...
you blew a bubble of plastic around yourself
now it's collapsed and you're in hell
- polyethylene skin and a lingering smell
of burning grease, discomfit and verdegris
but you don't make that mistake...
When I see you climbing up the pole
I hope that you will fall
When I see you climbing up the pole
I know that you will fall

Love/anti-love
03:39
|
|||
Anti-love, anti-belief,
counter-clockwise non-relief
masochist me, masochist me
Have no 'other half',
don't want to be a part
of some mutual-need farce
- charade -
parading as 'love'
masochist me, masochist me
and see me, I'm 'hot'
and see me, I'm 'hot'
masochist me, masochist me

Ah, wade in
You were always gonna be disappointed with everything
so next time you find a stream of forgetfulness why don't you wade on in?
But the streams and all the seas
are none-too deep to deny the crimes abounding around you and me
around our boundless 'humanity';
like Skamandros overfull with blood and guts
and an abhorrence beyond relief
ah, wade in
So there's nothing else for it, only one of two options (a little off & on)
- drown yourself, give in
- or destroy the sources of all this evil you've been hating
All the people who believe themselves to be in control of everything
so clearly wish to achieve the destruction of compassion of virtue of living breathing everyone's being
so next time they're up to their necks, their chins, in what they will reap
won't you wade on in?
Ah, wade in
Don't need a stone, don't need a rock
the weight of their sins will do the job
tie a noose, a sturdy knot
and ferry them out to deeper water
where they'll never get across

A vision
04:53
|
|||
I saw the face of god
clutching a truck and
trying to get to sleep
in a sheetless unmade bed
Yeast extract stripes on
the side of the head and
an undersized dummy
clenched in the teeth
My baby is sleeping
and I don't think you realise
the difficulty
in doing anything now
How does one person mean so very much?

Untouched
04:11
|
|||
Feels as though I'm numb to your touch
feels as though, as though this numbness is all there is to feel, as such
feels so bare, like polished floors
- unstained, unblemished.
Unblemished, and yet
unremarkable.
Days go by
books unread
lips unkissed
smiles unshared
and limbs without touch
and all of these things
refuse to haunt you
abandoned
untouched.

The painter
05:52
|
|||
I painted up the school house while the teacher teached
and when I was done he stepped outside, took a long good look at me and said:
"You're just too stupid to learn anything
now keep yourself outside"
and he paid me away with a calf's liver tied up in paper and twine
Now how do you like that?
I painted up the dance hall while the troupe brewed up choreography
and when I was done I clicked my heels
they laughed and said "you've got two left feet"
They flipped me some coins and a slip of muslin gauze
pointed up the street and said "You belong outdoors"
Now how do you like that?
I used a roller and a pole-arm to paint the city hall
I got all the parapets and the crenellations and I sanded all thirty gargoyles
When I signed my name to say the work's complete
the dirty little duty clerk pointed a finger at me and said
"Get out" (their gratitude was my payment that day)
Now how do you like that?
I painted the prison house - I took my time
I made it stretch to the week's end;
And when I was done, the warden stepped outside and said
"We won't be paying you unless you do it all again"
Now how do you like that?

Kobayashi Maru
04:08
|

There's a crack in the footpath that wasn't there yesterday
and the wagtails in the lemon tree have stopped howling at the moon
Rotted tomatoes and peaches fester in the grass
and crippled ants scout along the blades
and all of this I can see has only one meaning...
The rats in the garden have gotten bigger
and the patio's covered in glass shards
I can't remember what you look like except for the colour of your hair
Smoke is eating this city - it's settled in our hearts
and all these signs compete to deny
that my world is falling apart...
The lady in the post office smiled yesterday
- that's something she'd never normally do
And when she asked who all the parcels were for
I felt too stupid to say it was you
(I felt so stupid)
And all of this I can see has only one meaning:
my world is falling apart
my world is broken again
it's coming apart at the seams
my world is falling apart

Deny
03:47
|
|||
Oh Rachel,
we could never be you - going round and round and round and round
on a carousel
with a bluebird on your shoulder
And that bluebird on your shoulder - he lies
he lies
he lies
Did you see me trip on that hippo just now?
and whoever said domesticity was bliss, well they lied
they lied
they lied
Being plastic's not all it's cracked up to be
- give Tom Hanks a yank on his string and you'll see what I mean
Better yet paint a face on a beach ball and hope for the best
or take a rifle to a crowded shopping mall and aim for the head
cos the head always lies
the head lies
Head/heart, mind/soul, body/spirit
the greatest thing called deceit is all of these binary divisions
- they're lies
invented by some Athenians
let's all reinvent ourselves again
without lies
without lies

The device
03:47
|
|||
I have been here for six hours
I will never be released
I will have my crimes written over me
I will never know peace
I am lying on a bed of cotton wool
but that doesn't mean a thing
I can see one thousand needles
I will soon be a piece of dog meat
Hey, you know
I've got another one for you
I can feel the metal cutting through me
I can see the blood run
I can tell my skin is hanging by a thread
I will never know peace
Hey, you know
I've got another one for you
Civilisation
shun, shun, shun
