There's a crack in the footpath that wasn't there yesterday
and the wagtails in the lemon tree have stopped howling at the moon
Rotted tomatoes and peaches fester in the grass
and crippled ants scout along the blades
and all of this I can see has only one meaning...
The rats in the garden have gotten bigger
and the patio's covered in glass shards
I can't remember what you look like except for the colour of your hair
Smoke is eating this city - it's settled in our hearts
and all these signs compete to deny
that my world is falling apart...
The lady in the post office smiled yesterday
- that's something she'd never normally do
And when she asked who all the parcels were for
I felt too stupid to say it was you
(I felt so stupid)
And all of this I can see has only one meaning:
my world is falling apart
my world is broken again
it's coming apart at the seams
my world is falling apart
